I love Dollar Tree. I have one right near my office so I am in there at least once a week looking to see what's new that I can dress up. On a recent trip I found these:
They came 6 to a package for $1.00. (The Martha version sells for $7.95 for a pack of 8). Now, they came with these cute little stickers but we all know that won't do. I can do better. I wanted my test tubes to stand on their own and I wanted to get more than one stand out of an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of card stock. I also wanted the back of my stand to support the entire length of my test tube. This is what I came up with:
The bottom panel is wider than the top panel so that the front is at a slight angle. This gives the stand a little more stability as well as shows off the sentiment on the front. All three sentiments are from the stamp set that came with my October Paper Pumpkin kit. (If you want more information on how you can get your very own Paper Pumpkin kit every month, please click on the Paper Pumpkin link on the right) The "Brew up a little fun" on the tag is from the Tee Hee Hee stamp set in the holiday catalog. The tags are cut from the tag dies that are included with the Curvy Keepsake Die. The bats and crows are leftover stickers from my October Paper Pumpkin kit.
I managed to get not two but three stands from one 8 1/2" x 11" piece of card stock. If you would like to make some too, head to your nearest Dollar Tree and here are the dimensions and instructions:
Card Stock: Cut 2 3/4" x 11"
Score at: 5 1/2", 71/4", 8 1/2", 9 3/4"
Coordinating DSP Mats: 2 5/8" x 5 3/8" (x1)
2 5/8" x 1 1/8" (x2)
Fold along all score lines. Adhere largest piece of DSP to back of stand. Flip over and adhere one of the smaller pieces to the 3rd panel from the end. (this will be your front stamped panel)
Using a 3/4" punch, push your punch all the way into the 2nd panel from the side. (this will be the top of your stand) Repeat on the other side. You will have a hole that is awkward and too large for your test tube. Using the first punched circle as a guide, adhere it to the center of the remaining DSP panel. Punch a hole using the adhered circle as a guide. Place the punched DSP panel over the punched stand panel. (you may need to trim any excess card stock that is showing through the punched hole)
Punch two small holes in the back panel about 1/2" apart for your ribbon trim. Stamp front panel. Fold along score lines and adhere first end panel to stand back using Mono liquid adhesive. Insert ribbon through back holes, insert test tube in large hole, tie and add tag. Fill as desired.
I would love to see what you come up with! Please leave me a commment and share your creations with me!
Thanks for stoppin' by!
